Pretty Up Your Pumpkins {JIAD style}

A few days ago I showed you my pumpkins!
Today I am going to show you how to make your own!
Yay!

The pumpkins used to look like this:
(They were purchased at Wally World and the Dollar Tree)
Some of them had “natural” looking stems –  which I like.
Some of them had cheap green plastic stems – which I do not like…
I started out by gently removing all of the stems
(except for the green ones… I had other plans for those pumpkins…)

I gathered all of the little pumpkins with the dreaded green stems and the two larger pumpkins (stems removed) and my favorite Krylon Rut Tough Enamel spray paint and went outside!

After a few coats they pumpkins were lookin’ like something I would have in my house!
Yay!

While the silver pumpkins were drying, I went inside and cut up little fabric scraps into smaller pieces:

Then I got my hot glue gun, placed a dab of glue then stuck a little piece of fabric onto the pumpkin…
Then repeated that like 5,000 more times until the entire pumpkin was covered!
(make sure not to cover the hole for the stem to go back in!)
I got some more ribbon scraps and cut them into strips then created ruffles with my sewing machine.
You can see how here.

I put a strip of hot glue on the pumpkin and then added the ruffle.
…. hot glue… ruffle….
If my ruffle was too long, then I cut it and when I got the the top, I folded the end of the ruffle under and glued it down (confused?! see next picture!)!
Make sure NOT to cover the hole for the stem to go back in!
Once all of your pumpkins are all scrappy and rufflie, put your stems back on (you may want to hot glue them back into place)!
Make sure to use different fabrics to create a fun bunch of pumpkins and gourds!
Gotta love a mixture of scrappy, shiny and ruffled pumpkins!

These fun pumpkins are taking over our house!

They weren’t always this “rufflie” and fun!

They were so simple to make!

And a few gourds are even scrappy!

Aren’t they super fun?!
Wanna make some of your own?!
A tutorial is coming soon!
Happy Saturday!
I am linking this post here , here and to these awesome places!

West Elm Inspired Mercury Glass!

Ok, I love, love, LOVE West Elm! They have the best ideas in the backgrounds of their photos. Their furniture is a little too modern sometimes for my taste, but I really love the overall “look” of their items.
Here is my latest West Elm crush:
Footed Mercury Hurricanes
Footed Mercury Hurricanes
Yep, Mercury Glass! LOVE it!
So I began thinking about how I could create the “look” without the price!

Then I scoured the Internet for ways to create that Mercury Glass and found this awesome tutorial by Maryann over at Domestically Speaking!

Of course, I went to the trusty old Dollar Store (I really should buy stock in that store!) and found this glass vase. Then I gathered all of my materials:

After a few minutes, I ended up with this:

And here it is in use:

Another awesomely cheap knockoff that looks very similar to the “real thing!”

Felt Christmat Trees Tutorial!

Last week I showed you my Garnet Hill inspired Felt Christmas Trees and now I wanna show you how to make your own!
Cut out your trees in felt (make sure to cut 2 pieces one for the front and one for the back!)! Be creative and use fun colors too!

Decorate the front of your little trees with ribbons, sequins, buttons and anything else you can think of!

See?! Like this:

Put right sides together and stitch all around, leaving the bottom open.  (remember to back stitch at both ends!)

Turn right side out:

And Stuff!
Then go outside and find the perfect stick to act as the trunk of your tree:

Push stick into the tree (you gotta kinda work it through the stuffing!) an:d hot glue around the stick to close the base of the tree:

Then I put a little Styrofoam in a votive from the Dollar Store, stuck the stick in and topped it off with moss!
Enjoy your Felt Christmas Trees!

Make your own…

Topiary!
I love topiaries! I’m not too sure why, I just do! So it dawned on me that I could make a topiary the same way I made my faux moss balls!
So, I went to the Dollar Store and bought two foam balls. I then added moss (left over from the first project) to them and then went into the back yard and searched for the perfect stick! Then I pushed the balls onto the stick, got another piece of foam and placed it in a mercury glass (obsessed, by the way) vase. For a finished look, I added some moss on top of the foam sitting in the vase so you can’t see the ugly foam that the stick is stuck in!
Here is what I did with one of my moss balls:

I took an old candle holder that was bras (and just 67 cents at the thrift store!), spray painted it, placed the moss ball on top and set it on the mantle!
Just a different way to display them! And I must admit, it looks really great on the mantle!

Make your own…

Faux Moss Balls!
At the Dollar Store the other day I found a pack of three foam balls (3in) and a pack of moss.
I then took the balls and put hot glue on one section of it.
note: do small sections because hot glue dries fast!
Take the moss and put onto the section that you just hot glued.
…continue to glue and put moss onto the ball until the whole ball is covered and…
Bam! Three faux Moss Balls for $2!
Sure beats the pricey ones out of the catalogs! (They look the same too!)

note: if you have extra time, spray paint your foam balls green before adding the moss. That way you wont have to worry if a little bit of the foam ball is exposed!
