Pallet Letter Sign {tutorial}

Hanging on the wall in our den is this fun pallet letter sign:

319

The Hubs took beat the pallet apart and I lined up 4 boards and used two smaller pieces that Ross cut for me to hold it all together.

263

I flipped the sign over and got out my awesome DecoArt Designer Series White paint that my friends at DecoArt sent me a pencil, and a few paint brushes.

002

Next I drew a big ‘’P” on the sign with the pencil.
Can you see part of it?!

243

Then I took a smaller paint brush and painted over the pencil line.

248

I used the big paint brush to fill the “P” in.

251

Once the “P” was all painted, I let the paint dry well then sanded it down to give it a distressed look.

260

Now we have a fun Pallet Letter Sign hanging in our den!

The best part, it was FREE!

Gotta love a free piece of custom art hanging on the wall that most people assume cost a fortune!

Print On Heat n Bond {Applique Tutorial}

I made these shirts for Cliff and Harper to wear to the hospital when Hollis was born!

Applique Tutorial, How to print on Heat n Bond, How to Applique perfect letters

I took a roll of Heat n Bond and cut a piece the size of printer paper.
Then I went to the computer and picked out the words/fonts, etc I wanted to use.
Make sure you print the letters out BACKWARDS on the Heat n Bond!
Then I put the piece of Heat N Bond paper side UP in the printer with a few pieces of printer paper behind it and printed the letters onto the Heat n Bond!

Next, I gathered scrap fabric, cut out the letters and ironed the Heat n Bond to the back of the fabric according the directions on the package.
Cut out the letters, iron to the shirt and then stitch the letters onto the shirt.

The Hollis Wreath {aka Felt Wreath}

All-things-baby_thumb

This wreath now hangs on our front door to celebrate the new addition to our family!

419

I decided to add a big “H” to the center of the wreath for Hollis!
(To make the dots, I used this method)

425

Doesn’t the pink make you happy?!

427

It would also be super cute in blue too!

429

Seriously, this wreath was so simple to make and I think I will make one for every season or occasion!
I just love the rufflie goodness!

431

Want to learn how to make one for your door?!
Check out my friend Mandy’s blog for the tutorial!
She made this one for the 4th of July this year:

Labor & Delivery Nurse {Gift Baskets}

I thought it would be so nice to take a little something to share with the all of the nurses at Labor & Delivery and Post Partum! Nurses work LOOOONG hours and often do not get the credit they deserve, so it is important to me that they know how much we appreciate their hard work to keep Hollis and I safe and healthy!

labor and delivery nurse gift basket tutorial

I went to the store and bought items that are packaged and will last a fairly long time.

labor and delivery nurse gift basket tutorial

Then I made this cute printable, glued it to a popsicle stick and added a bow!

labor and delivery nurse gift basket tutorial

I found the baskets at Hobby Lobby for 50% off!
I think they were less than $5 a piece!
Then I added big felt bows to each basket!

labor and delivery nurse gift basket tutorial

Once the baskets were filled with goodies, I stuck the Thank You Printable in between inner and outer edges of the basket!
That way it can be easily removed and the nurses can use the baskets for other things later on!

labor and delivery nurse gift basket tutorial

See how they stick right in there?!

labor and delivery nurse gift basket tutorial

This was a simple way to say “thank you" to all of the nurses who will be taking care of Hollis and me!

I would love to know how you say “thank you” to the nurses who take care of you and your baby or other family members who are in the hospital!

Cutest {BURP} On The Block! {tutorial}

I shared this tutorial last week over at This Crazy Blessed Life!
I am reposting it here just in case you missed it!

Today,
I am going to share with you how I made Hollis’s burps!

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

To make a super cutie burp you will need:
Thread
Cloth Diaper (Gerber makes packs of 10 that can be found at Target or Walmart)
Sewing machine
Scissors
Iron
Ribbon, Ric Rac, Pom Poms, etc.
(any trim you would like to use to pretty up your burp)
Wash and dry your cloth diapers.
They will all shrink differently, so this is VERY important!

Measure your cloth diaper, cut your fabric adding 3 inches to the length and 6 inches wide.
(I usually end up cutting my fabric about 21 inches long by 6 inches)
Iron the long sides of your fabric down about 1/4 of an inch.

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

Then iron the ends of the fabric 1/4 of an inch.

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

If you want to applique or monogram your burp, now is the time!
I like to iron the edges THEN add the applique or have the fabric monogrammed because you can see the edges of the fabric and be able to place the name/initials accordingly.
FIY: make sure that your monogram is about 2-3 inches away from the short edge!

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

Now place your fabric face down and then lay the cloth diaper on top.
Fold the ends over the burp cloth and iron into place.

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

It should look like this:
At this point, it would be super smart to pin the fabric into place…
I was lazy and totally winged it…

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

Top stitch one of the short ends.
(Don’t forget to  backstitch!)

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

Then stitch both long sides into place.

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

At this point, I like to flip the burp over and top stitch the remaining short end.

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

Now you have a super cute burp!

burp cloth tutorial, cute burp cloth, how to make a burp cloth

If you want to make your super cute burp FABULOUS,
add pom poms, ric rac, ribbon, ruffles or a cute fabric flower!
I add these AFTER the basic burp is complete!

If it’s gonna wipe up spit… it may as well be cute, right?!
Here are a few I made for my baby, Hollis, who will arrive in early August:

Seriously,
these are so simple to make and are the perfect gift for a new baby!

Who wouldn’t want their baby to have the cutest burps on the block?!

{Giant Ruffle Lampshade Tutorial}

Remember this fun lamp that sports a giant ruffle in our bedroom?!

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Today, I am going to share with you how you can make your own!
Yippy!
Ok, so start by measuring the circumference around your lamp shade and multiply that by 3 or 4, depending on how “ruffily” you want your ruffle to be.
This will be your length.
For the width, measure the width of your lampshade and visualize how much of the actual shade you want to peek out.
I wanted my shade to show few inches on either side, but if you want to cover the entire shade then make sure you add at least 1 1/2 inches to the width of your fabric for seam allowance, etc.

Fold your long sides down 1/4 inch then 1/4 inch again.
Iron in place and pin, then stitch.
Make sure you backstitch at both ends!
(Do this for both long sides!)

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Next set your machine to the longest stitch setting and stitch about 1 or so inch away from the edge. DO NOT BACK STITCH!!!!
(Do this for both long sides)

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Next pull ONE thread at the end of the long stitch to create your ruffle at one of the sides then repeat for the other long side.
Use your shade as a guide to see how much or little you need to ruffle and adjust accordingly. You need to make sure to leave about an inch overlap.

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Plug your hot glue gun in and lay your shade on it’s side.
Then lay the ruffle on top of the shade with the end on top of the seam.
This is where you will begin.
Run a long line of hot glue along the end of the ruffle and press into place.

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Next begin by running a strip of hot glue along the stitch that created the ruffle and press into place. I found that it works best to run a strip a few inches long at a time, press into place and repeat on the other side.

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Fold your fabric back and continue to run strips of hot glue along where the ruffle stitch will touch the lampshade then press into place…
Make sure your ruffle is straight!
And remember to glue a few inches along one side then a few inches along the other side working your way around the lampshade.

Continue this until your ends overlap and run hot glue the end into place.

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Once your ruffle is all glued to the lampshade,
you can go back and “tack” any places that may stick out funny, etc.

Lampshade Tutorial, ruffle lampshade tutoiral, DIY Lampshade

Now you have a super fun lampshade for your home!

Isn’t it fun?!

Yay for giant ruffles!
(and little ruffles too!)

DIY Monogram Lampshade {Tutorial}

In our new master bedroom is this fun lamp with our monogram on it!
If you have shopped around, then you know these are NOT cheap!
Actually, I was shocked when I found out how much just a monogrammed lampshade can cost!
But I LOVE the look of it, so I got to thinking and created this:

DIY Monogram Lampshade Tutorial

I found this super cute lamp at Target for less than half the price of a monogrammed lampshade, but knew it needed a little something!

DIY Monogram Lampshade Tutorial

Using my black vinyl from Expressions Vinyl and my Silhouette,
I created and cut out our monogram.

DIY Monogram Lampshade Tutorial

Then I applied the vinyl directly to the lampshade and…

Now we have a super fun,
semi-custom lamp in our bedroom!
And it cost WAY less than those fancy monogrammed lampshades!
The best part – it took me about 10 minutes make!

Gotta love achieving an “expensive” look without spending the big bucks!
Oh yea,

and because we love YOU,
tune in tomorrow for a fun Expressions Vinyl giveaway!

Happy Monday!

Spring Wreath {Tutorial}

Earlier this week, I showed you my new Spring Wreath!

Here is how it is made:

For this wreath,

I used a very thin flannel.

I am sure you can use burlap or pretty much any medium weight fabric!

DSC_0415

You will need:

Light weight flannel (or any med – heavy weight fabric you want!)

A large wire wreath (Found at Hobby Lobby)

Scissors

Floral Wire

DSC_0704

Cut your fabric into strips.

Mine were about 7 inches wide and about 28 inches long.

(I used 2 strips for this wreath)

DSC_0701

Fan fold the end of one strip of fabric and “thread” the floral wire through all of the folds.

DSC_0707

Tie the end to the wire wreath using the floral wire like this:

DSC_0709

Begin loosely weaving the fabric in and out of the wire wreath…

DSC_0714

Fold the fabric back over then weaving it through again, making sure the front side of the wreath is covered.

DSC_0716

…Keep weaving in and out…

DSC_0721

Don’t freak out once you reach the end of the strip!

DSC_0725

Simply grab the second strip of fabric, fan fold, thread the floral wire and attach to the wire wreath just like you did with the first strip!

DSC_0728

Continue weaving the fabric in and out until the entire wire wreath is covered and then fluff away to your hearts desire!

DSC_0736

Flip the wreath over and tie twine or ribbon to the back of the wire wreath.

DSC_0740

Now gather your little wooden rectangles (found at Hobby Lobby for 50 cents), Chalkboard Spray Paint and little clothes pins.

Paint the wooden rectangles with the chalk paint…

Write cute letters on them and clip them to the twine in the center of your wreath with your little clothes pins!

DSC_0749

Now you have a simple spring wreath that can easily be used for many seasons!

Spring Wreath

Yay for Spring!

{Spring} Wreath!

When I think of Spring,

I think of simplicity.

Cleanliness.

Happiness.

DSC_0416

So,

when creating our Spring Wreath this year,

I decided to allow the natural beauty around our home to take center stage.

I made a point to create a wreath that would compliment the natural, vibrant colors that only Spring brings.

DSC_0435

This wreath is not only perfect to use to transition to other seasons,

but it’s simplicity is just plain sweet.

DSC_0445

It is also super simple to make!

A tutorial is coming soon!

Chevron Pennant Banner {Tutorial}

I made this Pennant Chevron Pennant Banner
for Harper’s Bow Tie & Tutu Birthday Party!

DSC_0469-001

I ran across this Chevron Pennant Banner created by the fabulous Jen over at TT&J and fell in LOVE!

chevron pennants all in a row[1]

Jen created hers using her Silhouette!
I could have easily made mine with my Silhouette,
but decided to create a tutorial for those of you who do not have a Silhouette…
because I love you THAT much!

Alrighty,
here is how you can make you own Chevron Pennant Banner sans a Silhouette!

Gather your fabrics and cut your pennants out.
Mine were about 7 inches long and 5 inches across the top!

DSC_0138

Cut a strip of Heat n Bond and apply to the backs of your fabric according to the directions on the package.
(I cut my Heat n Bond about 3.5 inches wide and 8 inches across)

DSC_0144

Next find or create a chevron pattern on your computer and print it out.
Then Trace it onto the back of the Heat n Bond.
Trace about 5 pennant chevron lines per pennant.
Tip: You can line the chevron pattern up with the first line and trace the bottom line to save time!
Once you are finished tracing your chevron pattern,
cut them ALL out!

DSC_0151

Peel the paper off of the back of the chevron pattern and apply to the front the of the pennants according to the directions on the Heat n Bond package.
Trim the excess pieces of fabric as needed.

DSC_0154

Now it is time to assemble the actual banner!
Get your twine, ribbon or whatever you want to use and cut it to be as long or short as you want your banner to be!
Remember to leave room at the ends for hanging the banner up!

DSC_0164

Lay your twine out in a straight line and then lay each pennant where you want it to be on the banner.
Turn each pennant over and put a strip of hot glue across the top of the pennant.
Carefully place the twine on top of the glue and press into place!
Repeat this step for all of the pennants!

DSC_0171

I wanted to make the banner a little more girly,
soooo…..
I decided to add lace trim to the top of each pennant!

DSC_0181

Cut the lace trim into strips.

DSC_0182

Add hot glue to the top, front of each pennant…

DSC_0185

And carefully place the lace trim on top of the pennant.

DSC_0190

If you want to add a little more happiness to your banner,
cut strips of fabric about one inch wide and 19 inches long.

DSC_0196

Tie the strips onto the twine between each pennant and…

DSC_0207

You have a super cutie Chevron Pennant Banner!
