The End Chairs.

After months of searching, I FINALLY found the perfect end chairs for our dinning room table!
My favorite part – they were only $5 bucks a piece!
Ok, Ok, the thing that really sold me was the intricate detail carved on the back of each chair.

The before:
The After:
Even the backs of the chairs make me happy!
Isn’t it amazing what a little spray paint and sanding can do?!

Finally, our dinning room is complete!

Yay for end chairs!
The End.
(pun intended)

Owl Pillow Tutorial!

Don’t know if you have noticed lately, but Owls are eeeeverywhere!
Here is an Owl Pillow I  made for Avery’s (the little’s cousin)  room!
Depending on the size of your pillow, measure and sketch out an “owl” shape (see next pic if confused).
I wanted this pillow to be about 17 by 12 inches when finished, so I drew a rectangle that was 18 x 13 then sketched the owl shape inside of the rectangle.

Then you have this:
007
Gather coordinating fabrics and print the pattern below as a guide for cutting the applique shapes!

Owl Applique Pattern

Apply Heat N Bond to the fabrics you want to applique before you cut the pattern out.
Then assemble the pattern, like this:

025

Next, iron the eyes (you will layer the eyelashes, layer1, layer 2 then layer 3) and wings on…

029

And stitch along the straight side, make sure to back stitch at both ends:
(the outer edges will be stitched down later… trust me!)

032

Next stitch around the all three layers of the eyes and eyelashes (make sure to back stitch!).

037

After the eyes are stitched, iron on the beak then stitch it down!

043

Now you should have this:

045

Next lay the blank layer on top of the applique with right sides facing each other and pin together. Then stitch all the way around starting at the bottom left side of the owl (make sure to back stitch) and sew all the way around leaving about a 2-3 inch hole at the bottom. Got it?! STOP about 2 -3 inches before you get to where you started and back stitch – then you have an opening so you can stuff the owl!

046

Before turning right side out, snip little 1/2 inch sections all the way around the owl.
Like this:

049
Then turn right side out!
051

Stuff the owl and hand stitch the bottom closed and then you have a super cutie patootie owl pillow!

How cute would it be to applique a name on this pillow?!

Goodbye Summer {Labor Day}

Today, my mind makes the transition from all things Summer to all things Fall!
This summer was wonderfully beautiful.
This summer The Girl still had that “baby” look…

…while The Boy grew out of his toddler hood and became a preschooler.
Who is now very independent.
This summer was the summer of local, fresh fruits and veggies!
(thank you Hollis for sharing these wonderful veggies from your garden)

And spending the weekends on the lake.

This Summer we were pirates who ate popsicles for dinner…
And drank our water from the hose.

This summer, I prayed that I will never forget these moments.
The little moments.

This summer the littles took their afternoon naps on our boat.

This summer we had barefoot babies.
Whose tiny feet were covered in dirt, reminding us each evening of the fun we had all day.
The beauty of the summer will forever be ingrained in my mind.

Goodbye Summer…
…HELLO Fall!
I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing Labor Day!

Little Shelves!

Above my new desk are these little shelves:
(don’t worry! The reveal is coming… a little bit at a time!)

These hopped into my buggy one day while I was walking down the 90% off isle at Hobby Lobby!
Oh, Darn!
….Don’t you hate it when that happens?!

And just in case you need solid proof….

So, I grabbed a can of spray paint that I already had on hand and gave these bad boys a good coat of Krylon’s Catalina Mist:
Then I did some light sanding!
After hanging them on the wall, I grabbed some Mason Jars and filled them with fun things like: Glue sticks for my glue gun, bobbins, knobs, chalk.
One of the shelves was missing a drawer, so I grabbed some baby food jars and filled them with little things like: straight pens, beads, snaps, safety pens….
Of course one jar was dedicated to just being pretty:
I love the $5 shelves in the new Craft Room!
Today’s tip:
Just because it is missing a piece or a little roughed up, it can still be functional… and pretty too!
