Picture Wall – My Way!

When I decided to create the picture wall in our kitchen, I looked all over the internet for ways to “properly” make a picture wall. Ummm… too much measuring and taping… who has time for that?!
 I sure don’t!

So I decided that I can totally do this MY way! And this is how I did it:

I started with one picture frame somewhat in the middle.

And continued to add from there. Do not worry about pictures or the frames (we will address this a little later).

Just keep on adding frames… (I just eye balled the location of each frame by holding it up where I thought it should go. Then I would put a little nail in the wall and hang the frame! – Super simple.)
…until the whole wall is covered!

Once I got all of the frames where I wanted them, I took the frames I wanted to paint off the wall and got to sprayin’!

Then I printed out new pictures to replace the old ones. When selecting pictures to put on your wall make sure you get the ones that make you smile, the ones that bring back your favorite memories and the ones that represent your family best.

Put the new pictures in their frames, hang them on the wall in their spot, add a little two sided tape to the corners of the smaller frames to keep them straight and …

…enjoy your new picture wall!
PS – I used old frames and spray paint I already had for this entire picture wall! It cost me about 10 bucks to print the new pictures! Can’t beat that!

I love this gallery wall! It's my favorite one I've ever seen. I love the colors, the different shapes, that it covers the whole wall…well, there isn't anything I don't like about it! And that you did it without all the hassle I've seen in other tutorials makes it even better! I need to start looking for yard sale and thrift store frames so I can do this in my hallway. Thank you for your tutorial and the photos…it's great!! :)

Love the colors!! I don't measure either I just start hanging and worry about the extra holes later. I put a little bit of "earthquake putty" I think it's called on some of the back corners that help adhere the frames to the wall. Then when my kids go tromping through the house and slamming the front door it keeps my frames straight.

Love your new wall, I was worried there for a second, when you had them all up crooked, but thought OK, different but still cool, he he. It sure does make a HUGE statement. I have tons of empty walls in my home, and practically no pictures up. Darn digital, has made me lazy, lol.

Come link up girl, I'd love to have you. Stop by anytime to say hello!!!

Love that! I did the same thing in my family room. I just started putting pictures up on my wall (I have a big wall over my couch under a cathedral ceiling) and every so often add more. I always just eyeball it, and NEVER measure. I love the look of a photo wall. Yours is great!!

  13. CraftySix says:

I TOTALLY LOVE your wall!!! :) I've been meaning to/wanting to do something similar with a huge empty wall we have in our home. I like your spray painting idea for your frames. I also love to know that I'm not the only one out there that just eyeballs & hammers away when it comes to hanging pictures! :)

  14. HOMEmomMADE says:

I can see how there would be tons of smiles walking by this wall. I'd prob ball my eyes out bc mine are growing waaaay too fast. Love the idea and will have to adapt or find a wall to try something like this. Great Tute!

I love it! Nice to see someone who does it like I do! I am so impressed that you took it to the floor. I only went about waist high but I really like the look of it going to the floor.
I has a wall in our short hallway that for about a decade i called the wall of 2's because every photo had 2 people in it. I am re-doing that into the GIANT picture wall- printing photos on reg paper at office depot and putting them in large frames (yardsale finds- I just turn the print over and use the frame).

  35. Beja says:

Totally found this by searching "picture wall" on Pinterest. I was intrigued because my great-grandmother's name was Johnnie. I know this was actually your dad's name, but thought that was really cool.

I love that you "didn't follow the rules". I have been paralyzed by perfectionism, but I knew there was a way to do it cheap and still do it in MY style. Great job! I'll be stopping by from time to time.
