Post Op Week 4!

This week has been WONDERFUL!
Cliff seems to be feeling much, much better. He has done some major things this week too! He has been asking to do his exercises and most of the time he does them without arguing! Ross and I also did a little re-arranging in the playroom and got most of the toys up off of the floor. Cliff now has to either sit at his bench and play on his train table, or he can tall kneel at the train table and play – NO more playing on the floor! Cliff really seems to enjoy being up off of the floor! While sitting on his bench, Cliff will pull to stand at his train table all by himself! He began doing this without us asking! Ross and I just about fell over in shock! He also has begun getting into and out of tall kneeling at the train table!
Post-Op Day 21, Cliff finally sat up all by himself on the floor! AND he clapped for himself too! He could do this before the surgery, but I was worried afterwards because he would try to sit up and as soon as he was almost sitting up all the way, he would start crying and have to lay back down, so this is huge for us!
Then on Post-Op Day 22, Cliff side stepped at his PT’s office to the left AND to the right! His PT and I both had to fight back tears! We have been trying to get him to do this for TWO whole years and he finally did it! I don’t have pictures because I left my camera at home…
THEN on Post-Op Day 24, Cliff sat on his knees and played his drums with NO support! He has NEVER been able to sit back on his feet like this and to do it without help too, it was amazing!

Then Harper had to join in on the fun too! He played his drums and she clapped (standing and clapping is her new trick! Yay for Harper!) for about 20 minutes!

Oh yea and to top this week off, we went on a little road trip (Post-Op Day 25) and got Cliff fitted for an Ambucs AmTryke! Here he is testing one out! Cliff was so proud of himself. He was beaming with pride! His trike should arrive within the next couple of weeks! He has a little Radio Flyer, but despite our attempts to Velcro, zip tie and duck tape his feet to the pedals, he just couldn’t ride it too well. With the AmTryke, He can go and by “go” I mean FAST too!
Cliff’s trike will have a little blue seat (like the seat on his Radio Flyer) and a push handle that can he removed (he will not need this for long, but when we first go outside, I want to hold on to him.. He’s my baby!)!  He is so excited and we are too!
This week has been wonderful! We are so proud of Cliff!
Go Cliff Go!

Happy Anniversary!

Happy anniversary to the love of my life and my very best friend!
You are my strength.
You complete me.
And even four years later, I still have that “just started dating – butterflies in my stomach – heart pounding” feeling when I am with you.
I am so blessed to call you my husband!
We have been through so much in the past four years – trials and tribluations, happiness and joy.
Together we have created two beautiful children.
I love you more than I could ever express.
So here’s to many, many more years to come.
I Love You Babe!

To

Anyone who may be receiving a gift from our family,

I am so sorry your gift appears to be mangled, already opened and taped back together 500 times, ran over by a Mack Truck and thrown into a lake, but a very curious little girl just can’t seem to stay away…
Presents are her new found toy!
Oh yea, and they taste good too…
So don’t worry, your present wasn’t “Re-Gifted!”
…It has just been Harper’s toy for the past month!

Poor Santa…

We took the babies to see Santa last weekend!
Cliff was thrilled and informed Santa that he wanted a “Duck Call!”
and Harper… well let’s just say she took one good look at the Big Man In Red and….
…SCREAMED FOR HER LIFE!
Poor Santa! Did I run over and “save” Harper from this big, scary, strange Man that was holding her?! absolutely NOT! I just kept snapping away and laughing from behind the camera!(… I know, I just lost my “mother of the year” nomination…) But it really was funny!
 Poor Santa…
Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Post Op Week 3!

Exhausting.
That’s the word that sums up this week.

Cliff had one, MAYBE two good days at PT this week…

He had a very good reason though… On Post-Op Day 14, Cliff slid off of his therapy bench which caused his incision to bleed. I noticed some puss coming from the incision too… so I called Dr. Park’s office and they said to rush Cliff to his Pediatrician’s office. Not thinking about the time I did and we walked in the door at the Ped’s office at 5:30ish… they were closed, but lucky for me the front door was still unlocked! So I did what any “ithinkiamgoingtohaveaheartattack-isthisreallyhappening panic stricken” mother would do and go right on in! Cliff needed to been seen NOW! Thankfully his awesome Dr was just walking out the back door and the nurse caught her just in time to take a glance at Cliff’s back! She said we needed to go to the hospital because the incision did not look good… NOT what I wanted to hear… so across the street we went. At first we were told that Cliff would be admitted and probabally be put under for an MRI to see how bad the infection really was and then that he may have to go back into the OR for them to flush the incision out…. Again, NOT what we wanted to hear! But after the Dr talked to the Ped Neuro, we were told that we could take Cliff home and see him FIRST thing in the morning! AMEN! So the next day we went to the Neurosurgeon and since we caught the infection so early, he put Cliff on oral antibiotics!… That was what we wanted to hear! We are praying the infection will clear up and we can move on!
Other than that DRAMA… Cliff did walk a little more with his walker this week and he also did alot of tall kneeling too! It is frusturating to all of us when he does not feel well and cannot do his best during PT… Hopefully next week will be a better week for us!
Thank you for you prayers! They are what keep us going!

Stocking Tutorial!

Still wanna see how I made our stockings?!
ok, Here goes!
Make a pattern.
I liked the shape and size of Cliff’s stocking, so I just traced that!

Then I cut out the stocking (cut 2 pieces). Also, I forgot to take a picture, but cut the cuff (2 pieces) and make sure to cut it twice the length you want it when you are done (I cute mine out of a different fabric from the stocking)!
Then get out the old trusty Heat N Bond and applique what ever you want on your stocking! I did polka dots and also made patches for the toe and heel of the stocking out of the same fabric at the cuff (confused? see the next pic!)! I appliqued our names on the cuffs too!

Lay out what you want to applique and then iron away!

I decided to add ric rac around the toe and heel too! So pin the rickrack on and sew it on!

Then pin the back of the stocking and front of the stocking together (right sides in!) and sew the front and back pieces together, leaving the top open, of course:

Now for the tab to hang the stocking:
Cut a strip of fabric (I cut mine 2x the width than I wanted it to be and I eyeballed the length).

Fold in half and stitch the tube closed.

To turn is right side out, put a safety pin on the inside of the “tube” like this:

Now put the top of the pin back into the tube scrunch and pull the fabric a little bit at a time:

Keep on pushing the pin towards the other side and keep working the right side until it is all the way out. Then iron flat.

Before pinning the cuff together to sew, pin the tab with the loop on the inside and then sew both sides of the cuff like this:

See?!

Then with your applique at the upside down and at the top of your stocking pin the cuff and stocking right sides together:
And stitch:

Turn the cuff right side out and then iron flat! Turn the raw edge down into the stocking and iron the top of the cuff flat too!

And that’s it!
Enjoy your new Christmas Stocking!
If you make this, please share your version with me!
I love to see your creations!

Harper’s Latest Trick!

Harper’s first birthday is just a few weeks away!
She is growing WAY too fast!
She has a new trick! Wanna See?!
It starts out a little something like this:
After she musters up a little courage, she does this (just for a split second):

(I just LOVE her facial expression! Hard at work!)
Then bams down on her hiney with a loud thud:

And then she smiles with pride because she just stood all by herself!

What a big girl!
